Howard W. Lake

Mr. Howard W. Lake, of Medina, passed away November 20, 2017 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, FL.

Mr. Lake was born on January 13th, 1931 in Medina NY, a son of the late Arthur William and Lena (Myhill) Lake.  A graduate of Medina High School, class of 1948, he married the former Mary Jane Castricone in 1950.  He proudly served with the US Army in the Korean War, entering on Jan. 31, 1952 and was discharged on New Year’s Eve, 1953. Following his discharge, Mr. Lake worked the Sinclair gas station and then began a career in law enforcement.  He was employed by the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department and served as a Deputy Sheriff, Chief Deputy, and the Under Sheriff.  Later he worked in the child support unit.

Active in the community, he was elected as a trustee for the Village of Medina and served as a long time Judge in the Town of Ridgeway and Village of Medina. He was also a lifelong avid Republican.  Judge Lake was a member of State Magistrates Association, the Boxwood Cemetery Commission, Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion, and Lincoln Post #1483, VFW.

His first wife, Mary Jane, died suddenly on January 4, 1999.  Later Howard married the former Catherine Batstone.  He and Kate enjoyed the winters in Florida with their dog Beau.  He loved to manicure his lawn, and gardens at his home and loved roses.  He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend.  His door and his heart were open to all.

His greatest joy was his family. Survivors include his wife Catherine Lake;  his two children, Howard (Clara) Lake and Karen (Terry Ingerson) Lake Maynard, step child Daniel (Trudy) Bronson; grandchildren including Joseph William (Riki) Lake, Kim Scott, Marci (Rick) Fulwell, Robert Scott, Bonnie (Eric) Riley, Stacy (Jason) Maybach, Kerry Rosenberg, Tim (Nikki) Winans and Matthew Winans, Spencer Maynard, Kelly (Andrew) Bielak, Joy (Michael) Preston, Kyle and Jason Ingerson, and several great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Mary Jane Lake, his daughter-in-law, Linda R (Bensley) Lake;  son-in-law, Douglas Maynard and stepson Hal Bronson.

Friends may call on Thursday, November 30, 2017, (4-7) at the Cooper Funeral Home, Medina.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at 10AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church with the Rev. Daniel J. Fawls officiating.  Graveside committal services with Military Honors will be accorded at the Lake Mausoleum at Boxwood Cemetery by members of Lincoln Post #1483, VFW and Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion.

The family graciously declines flowers. Memorials may be made to a veteran’s organization of your choice.
