ALICE POWERS- SMITH
(Harrington)
Alice, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2018 while visiting Simi Valley, California. She was born March 12, 1933 in Lockport, NY to the late Reuben and Anna (Mayne) Harrington. She enjoyed growing up in WNY, and graduated from Lockport High School in 1950. She raised her family and worked for many years as a CPN with the Presbyterian Home, Lockport, NY and in Health Care. She always loved Olcott Beach, and dreamed of having a cottage there. Her dream was fulfilled when she bought a cottage at Camp Allen. She spent many happy summers there, and was involved in the Olcott Beach Carousel Park. Alice spent her last two winters in California with her daughter and grandson, but WNY was always her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Smith, and five siblings: Charles, Walter and Everett Harrington, Lottie Sherlock, and Eunice Thomas. She is survived by her five children and their families: David (Pat) Wheeler of Medina, NY (3 children, 3 grand children), Bruce Wheeler of Tonawanda, NY (2 children, 2 grandchildren), William Wheeler of Clarence Center, NY (1 child, 2 grand children), John Wheeler of Costa Rica, and Beth (Powers) Dooley of California (2 children). She is also survived by seven step-children: Kenneth Powers of California, Sandra (Powers) Simms, Kevin Powers, Vanessa (Powers) Harris, Sherry (Powers) DuBois, Roxanne Powers, and Starr (Powers) Huth all of WNY, along with their families, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alice was blessed to live her 85 years as a generous supporter of so many local charities, have wonderful friends and family, travel the world, and was the most loving mother and grandmother. She was young at heart and will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday May 26, 2018 from 10-11am at the United Methodist Church, 5956 Main Street, Olcott, NY with a "Celebration Of Life" service to follow at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Alice's name to: Olcott Beach Carousel Park, 5979 E. Main Street, Olcott, NY 14126.
