Mr. Ben L. Cox, of the Town of Ridgeway, passed away early on Monday morning, August 29, 2016 at his home. Mr. Cox was born in Happy, Texas, January 31, 1950, a son of the late Sherman and Dorine (Barnard) Cox . A graduate of Happy High School and West Texas State, he moved to the Medina area in 1994. He purchased a fourteen acre parcel and named it “Misfit Acres”. There, he enjoyed his horses, chickens, peacocks and many other animals, especially those from animal rescues. He had a special place in his heart for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and those who suffer with the effects of muscular dystrophy. He lost his brother, Glen, to MD. Ben was employed by Verizon Communications, as a field technician, from 1994 to Dec. 29, 2012. He worked out of the Lockport office and served Verizon in the Medina area. He was a member of the Communication Workers of America. Survivors include his wife, Dawn M. (Caleb); his daughter, Ashlee Cox; a brother, Jim Cox of Happy, TX; 4 step children, Deena (Jose) Reyes, Jason (Melinda) Cogovan, Robert (Amber) Cogovan and Colleen Pitts; his mother-in-law, Janice Caleb; brother-in-law, Dan (Julie) Caleb; 9 step grandchildren; many nieces and nephews including Joshua and Gabriel Vanacore, Jonell Evans, Jay Cox, Sr., Shannon and Nikki Jara. He was predeceased by his first wife, Christine Cox and his brother, Glen Cox. Friends may call on Saturday (10-12) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where his service will be held at 12 noon following visitation. The Rev. Craig S. Rhodenizer, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, will officiate. Memorials may be made to a high school scholarship fund to be established in Ben’s memory in Happy, TX: Ben L. Cox Scholarship Fund, C/O Ontario Shores FCU, POB 540, Medina, NY 14103-0540; or Knights/Kaderli Memorial Fund; or Muscular Dystrophy Assn.
