Esther (Foss) Baker, age 101 ¾, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2024. She was born January 22, 1923 in Lyndonville, NY, the daughter of Floyd and Nellie (Harris) Foss. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Gordon Baker; her sister, Joan (late Graydon) Baker; brother, Charles (late Doris) Foss; and son, Randall Baker. She is survived by her brother, Robert (late Marcia) Foss of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Carolyn (late Thomas) Gibson of Burke, VA; daughter-in-law, Addy Baker of Canandaigua, NY; five grandchildren, Alison Gleason of Farmington, Matthew (Annie) Baker of Clifton Park, Jeremy (Beth) Gibson of Bristow, VA, Christopher Gibson of Fairfax Station, VA and Nathaniel (Adrienne) Gibson of Morrisville, NC; twelve great-grandchildren, Caitlin (Carter) Pellicano and Connor Gleason, Jack and Lucas Baker, Joshua, Abigail and Daniel Gibson, John and Catherine Gibson and Elisa, Emilia and Elaina Gibson.
Esther was raised on her family’s farm in Lyndonville. She served for over thirty years in the Lyndonville Central School system in a number of different administrative support roles. Most notably, she served in vital roles as the assistant to the district Superintendent and in support of the school board. Her strength and care for her family extended to support of Twin Birch Farms and My-T-Acres, operated and managed by her husband, Gordon. Esther and Gordon were active members of Yates Baptist Church and Zion Fellowship. She sang, played piano and organ, and provided floral arrangements for church services at Yates Baptist Church. Esther had a passion for music and gardening. She shared a love of the outdoors with her family, enjoying camping and hiking trips to the Adirondacks. She and Gordon were generous and welcoming to all visitors and enjoyed learning of other cultures and sharing their own. Through the Buffalo Hospitality Group, they hosted many international groups in their home, including teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Italy, Japan, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, and Vietnam. She was a strong, gentle woman who had a deep love for the Lord, her family, and the land.
There will be no prior visitation. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11:00am at the Yates Baptist Church, 11365 E. Yates Center Rd., Lyndonville, NY 14098. Private interment will be in Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Yates Baptist Church, (address above), Zion Fellowship, 5188 Bristol Rd, Canandaigua NY 14424, or to a charity of your choice.
