Joann E. Grimes

Joann E. Grimes, 77, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother passed away on Thursday evening, January 31, 2019 after a difficult battle with cancer.

She was born on November 21, 1941, daughter of the late Henry John Nieman and Mildred Elizabeth (Herendeen) Nieman. Joann lived a long and happy life with her husband of 56 years, Gordon Wesley Grimes, with whom she had four amazing children. Joann had a very large heart and had cared for many. Not only did she raise her four children, but also nine foster children who she cared for and loved as if they were her own. Joann was also a long-time active member of Yates Baptist Church, Lyndonville. Joann was loved by all near and far and will be missed dearly. Her memory lives on with all of us. Although she may not be with us physically, she will always be with us in spirit.

Joann is survived by her husband, Gordon W. Grimes; their children, Gordon, Jr. (Bonnie Ferris), Gary (Carlos Ramirez), Jeffery (Lauri) and Kenneth (Donna); seven grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Brandon, Alexandrea, Victoria, Collin and Ryan; her sister, Linda Donohue (Bill Gilbert); also several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Monday, Feb. 4th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Cooper Funeral Home- 215 W. Center Street, Medina, NY 14103. The family will also receive friends from 10:00-11:00am on Tuesday, Feb. 5th at the Yates Baptist Church- 11365 E. Yates Center Road, Lyndonville, NY 14098 where her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in West Ridgeway Cemetery in the spring.  In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate memorial donations in Joann’s memory be made to Niagara Hospice- 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or to the Yates Baptist Church.
