Mr. Melvin L. Packer, of Medina, passed away on December 21, 2016 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.
Mr. Packer was born in Wood River, NB, September 27, 1934, a son of the late Virgil O. and Marie E. (Whiting) Packer. He served with the US Army from 1953-56. He was awarded 3 service medals while serving during the latter portion of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Packer was employed by Praxair, as a truck driver and retired in 1998. Following retirement, he worked as a delivery driver for Carquest Auto Parts. He enjoyed his deliveries and sharing time with his many friends. He was a longtime, proud and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and watching Buffalo Bills games with his son, Ken.
Survivors include his wife, Derryll A. (Smith) Packer. 3 children, Jeffrey (Tina) Farrell, Maryellen (Robert) Luckman and Kenneth C. (Ibolya) Packer; 7 grandchildren, Dustin and Chantalle Hurtgam, Ashley Farrell, Jeffrey Farrell, Jr., Kalvin, Ryan and Ethan Packer; 3 great grandchildren, Ian, Jospeph and Savanna; 2 sisters, Louise Thompson and Sheila Price; 2 brothers, Chuck and Russell Packer; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, David K. Packer on Nov. 9, 2000 and a sister, Linda Hale.
Friends may call on Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 (6-8) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 6339 Hamm Road, Lockport and interment will be in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery.
