Shawn T. Winkley, “Winky”, age 34, of Albion, entered into rest peacefully at home in his mother’s arms on Monday, July 31, 2023, following a 2 ½ year battle with cancer.
Shawn was born May 18, 1989 in Medina, a son of Joan M. (Capstick) Winkley and Todd R. Winkley. He graduated from Albion High School in the Class of 2008. A hard worker, after school Shawn went to work for Saint-Gobain in Albion, Bonduelle in Brockport, Take Form in Medina, Walmart in Albion and finally for Precision Packing Products in Holley before becoming too ill to work. Shawn’s greatest passion was the memorable adventures he had with his friends riding his side-by-side, mud bogging and snowmobiling. He also loved listening to music, fishing and having bonfires. He held a special place in his heart for helping to raise and spend time with his beloved nephew and niece, Owen and Kaitlin. Shawn was an animal lover. He especially loved his cat, Zoey, who was of great comfort to him through his final days. Shawn loved his family and was a great help to his mother, Joan, in caregiving for his brother, Justin. He enjoyed helping others and will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Joan Winkley (Tom Stirk); his father, Todd (Tammy) Winkley; maternal grandparents, Walker and Shirley Capstick; paternal grandmother, Rebecca Eckerd; two brothers, Brad (Michelle) Winkley and Justin Winkley; nieces and nephews, Tristan, Jordan, Jazzmyn, Owen and Kaitlin Winkley; several aunts, uncles and cousins; special uncle, Elton Capstick; his best friend, Mike Shacur “Big Mike” along with many other friends; and his cat, Zoey.
Predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Harold Winkley; uncle, Alvin Capstick; and cousin, Shawnie Gauthier.
His calling hours will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.
In lieu of flowers, Shawn’s family would appreciate any donations in Shawn’s memory to be made to PAWS Animal Shelter at www.paws14411.com, the American Lung Association at www.lung.org or the Pancreatic Cancer Network at www.pancan.org.
