Susan P. Williams

Susan P. Williams, of Medina, died Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the age of 76, surrounded by her family.

Born on April 21, 1946, to H. Gilman Williams and Lillian Hill Williams, Ms. Williams graduated from Medina High School; Sweet Briar College; and Tulane University, where she earned a master’s degree in art history. She worked at the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

An accomplished painter and sculptor, Ms. Williams enjoyed and was adept at various handicrafts, card games, and gardening. She also served as Committee Chair for Boy Scout Troop 35 in Medina.

For over 20 years, Ms. Williams volunteered for Save-A-Pet of Niagara County, and was dedicated to the group’s mission of saving the lives of animals – as well as helping the people who care for them – through a foster home program. She personally fostered over 120 dogs, and with the help of her friends in the organization, found good homes for countless others.

Ms. Williams was an avid reader, and believed in the value of education and the importance of being a well-informed citizen. She will be remembered for her strong principles; artistic talent; selflessness; humor; and love of animals, others, and her family.

Ms. Williams was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Virginia Williams Perez, as well as many beloved pets. She is survived by her son, Morgan Claxton; her sister, Catherine A. Williams; family members John Perez and Jen Schiffer, Susan Perez, Christopher and Amanda Kozody, Alix Gilman and Scott Robinson, Adrienne and Captain Evan Squires, Tori and Sergeant James Moreland, Olivia Carter, Wren Squires, and Roux Gilman; and her dog, Miles.

An hour of calling will be held on Tuesday, November 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m., both at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center Street in Medina. Interment will immediately follow at Boxwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Save-A-Pet of Niagara County at www.saveapetniagara.com or to an animal rescue charity of one’s choice.
