Mr. Edward J. Slawski, of Medina, passed away on January 13, 2017 at Buffalo General Hospital. Mr. Slawski was born in Medina, May 28, 1924, a son of the late Joseph and Victoria (Kocot) Slawski. A graduate of Medina High School, class of 1943, he served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theatre including France, Belgium and Germany. Following his discharge, he graduated from the Progressive School of Photography in New Haven, Conn. His career as a photographer spanned from the 1940’s to retirement in 1986. During this time his assignments included documenting events on United States military bases. He was a photographer for F & T Publishing Company in Atlanta, National Photo Company in Detroit, MI and Bollard Air Photo in North Miami, FL. In August, 1955, while working for National Photo Company, he photographed former President Harry S. Truman on Mackinac Island, Michigan. He was also self employed as a photographer and chronicled many weddings and family events at Medina Photo which was located on the second floor at 513 Main Street. Mr. Slawski was a member of Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church and the Sacred Heart Club. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed trips to the casino. Mr. Slawski was predeceased by his wife, Medina Elementary Teacher, Mary Lou (Wynn) Slawski on April 10, 2004; a brother, John Slawski, 2 sisters, Anna M. Slawski on Oct. 23, 1994 and Martha A. Radzinski on April 19, 2007. Survivors include his brother-in-law, Lawrence Radzinski of Medina, cousins including the Bernacki Family, and good friends, Glenn and Emily Stalker and Margaret and Albert Eddy. In accordance with his wishes, a private graveside committal service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel J. Fawls officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
