Mr. William G. “Bill” Elster, Sr., 80, of Middleport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Elster was born on August 9, 1936 in Alfred, NY, a son of the late John and Iva (Ordiway) Elster. A graduate of Medina High School, class of 1954, he married the former Shirley Bellamy in 1955. Bill opened his first business in Medina in 1955. He provided towing services for AAA for 46 years along with several other insurance companies. He also owned and operated Elster Motor Sales in Ridgeway before moving his business to Middleport in 1974.
Mr. Elster served with the National Guard for 4 years and was a member of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company for 2 years. He was a member of the Faith Bible Baptist Church and was the former church treasurer.
Survivors include five children, Elaine (Max) Medrano of Albion, Susan (Tim) Cutshall of Scammon, KS, Valerie Elster, William G. Elster, Jr. and Kim (Eric) Brown all of Medina; grandchildren, John (Christine) Shingleton, Thomas Shingleton, Jennifer (Greg) Shingleton, Dina (Justin) Narburgh of Medina, Amanda (Seth) Semonick and Mark (Brittany) Swank of KS; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Laura Himler and Cindy (Ralph) Haywood; a brother, David (Lenn) Ordiway; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Rick (Ellen) Fulwell, Iris Parlier and Donnie Much. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley, in 1990; 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Shingleton, Amanda Bloom and Donald Banks, Jr.; and 2 brothers, Olin Elster, Sr. and Les Ordiway.
Friends may call on Thursday (4-7) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where his funeral service will be held on Friday at 11AM. Pastor Stanley Thurber will officiate and interment will be in Hartland Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Omaha Home for Boys, 435 N. 52nd St., Omaha, NE 68104.
