Tomas V. Martinez

Tomas V. Martinez, 82 of Medina entered into rest on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

Born March 8, 1937 in Cayey, Puerto Rico he was a son of the late Felicano Martinez and Antonia (Vasquez) Martinez. Mr. Martinez started farming at a very young age. He moved to the United States in 1951, first living in New Jersey and made his way to Medina where he continued his hard work in farming. He picked apples for Robert’s Farm for many years and also worked at Bernz-o-Matic where he eventually retired. Mr. Martinez enjoyed gardening, fishing, singing and playing guitar. He was also a great cook and was best known for his delicious rice.

Survivors include his children, Debra (Tomas) Mercado, Carl (Bruce) Luckman, Ladena Anderson, Carol (Paul) Wisniewski-Pavlock, Kathleen (Leandor) Taylor, Lori Martinez, Michelle (Edward) Vasquez Martinez, Sophie Martinez, Tomas (Lorna) Martinez and Robert Martinez; twenty-nine grandchildren and forty-nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Adela Vazquez, Christina Vazquez and Elisa Vazquez; brothers, Francisco Vazquez, Elisel Martinez, Jesus Martinez and Carlos Vazquez; good friend, Marilyn Windnagle; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by his son, Timothy Martinez; granddaughter, Amanda Bloom; good friend, Diane Brege Martinez; and siblings, Amelia Vazquez, Maria Vazquez, Victor Vazquez, Claudio Vazquez, Cesar Vazquez, Angel Luis Vazquez and Santiago Vazquez.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 26th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina where his funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 2 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Medina.
